Glow Paints and Volatile Organic Compounds

VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) are emitted as gasses from certain solids or liquids and include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short to long-term adverse health effects.

Organic chemicals/compounds are widely used as ingredients in household products including paints and hobby products.

Studies have found that whilst people are using products containing organic chemicals they can expose themselves and others to very high pollutant levels and elevated concentrations can persist in the air long after the activity has been completed.

Conventional paints, including many water-based products such as matt and silk emulsions, generally contain a cocktail of petrochemical and synthetic preparations.

The harmful effects of VOC's are now widely accepted. They can cause:

• Harm to you and your family - irritating eyes and airways, aggravating allergies/sensitivities, causing asthma, headaches and flu-like symptoms and there is evidence of contribution to cancer and toxicity of body systems.

• Damage to the environment -  contributing to low-level atmospheric pollution, global warming, Sick Buiding Syndrome, and pollution of waterways from the manufacture and disposal of toxic VOC containing paints.

The concerns regarding VOC's are now a woldwide issue and it is important that VOC Free products are used as much as possible.
